Description

By Laurie Akehurst and Hugh Taylor

Fred Reynolds recording the London transport scene in the post-war period.   This was a most interesting time with older vehicles continuing due to a policy of make do and mend, war-time utility buses and borrowed vehicles being slowly phased out as newer types became available.   We are fortunate in that rear views of vehicles were never neglected.    His interests included both the Central and Country areas, trolleybuses, trams, the Underground, mostly surface stock, and the former Southern Railway, principally both sections of Waterloo Station.     Living in Sidcup Mr. Reynolds had a number of preferred locations for his photography which he would visit on various different occasions.    A few photos have been included which were taken when he was visiting other parts of the country.   With family responsibilities Mr. Reynolds gave up photographing transport subjects in 1956 but, fortunately, his collection survives.
